MTF x FIFPRO: Invitation to the World Players’ Union
My Visit to FIFPRO: A Glimpse Into the Heart of Player Advocacy
Stepping into FIFPRO House in Amsterdam, the headquarters of the world players' union, was an experience I won’t soon forget. As a professional footballer, I’ve always been aware of the importance of players' rights, but being invited to share my journey and insights with the team at FIFPRO gave me a whole new appreciation for the work being done behind the scenes.
FIFPRO had reached out, asking me to come and speak about my experiences in the game—both the highs and the challenges. They wanted me to share advice from my journey, offer perspectives on life as a professional footballer, and, most importantly, meet the passionate individuals working tirelessly to protect and support players worldwide. It was an honour to be given this platform, and I was eager to contribute in any way I could.

A Warm Welcome & A Deeper Understanding
From the moment I walked through the doors, I felt the energy and commitment of the team - their headquarters had to be arguably one of the best offices I had ever stepped foot in. FIFPRO isn’t just an organisation—it’s a collective of individuals who genuinely care about the well-being of players, both during and after their careers. I was introduced to key members of the European and Global Team, each of whom had their own role in ensuring that players' rights were upheld, whether it was through legal support, mental health advocacy, or helping athletes transition into life after football.
As I shared my journey, it struck me how engaged and receptive the team was. I was pleasantly surprised to see how majority of the staff in the office that day had booked out a slot in their calendar to be present at my presentation. We discussed the ever-evolving landscape of football, from the business side to the emotional and personal impact the game has on its players.

Key Takeaways: Passion, Purpose & Progress
One of my biggest takeaways from my visit was realising just how dedicated FIFPRO is to making football a better place globally. Their passion was evident—not just in their words but in their actions. They are constantly working to ensure players have a voice, fair contracts, and the right support when facing difficulties.
What stood out most was the intelligence and strategic thinking within the team. These weren’t just people working a job; they were individuals committed to making a difference. Whether it was pushing for better conditions in leagues across the world, advocating for mental health resources, or ensuring fair treatment for players at all levels, it was clear that their work was driven by a real sense of purpose.
For me, the visit was not only inspiring but also a reminder of the importance of player advocacy. Football is a beautiful game, but it comes with challenges that many don’t see. Knowing that organisations like FIFPRO exist—led by people who genuinely care—gives me hope that the sport will continue to evolve in a way that protects and uplifts its players.
As I left FIFPRO House, I felt grateful for the opportunity to share my story, but even more so for the work being done to safeguard the future of footballers around the world.
